A Galaxy in Whiteness
Razieh Sedighian depicts a galaxy like world in her compositions. In spite of the rush that encompasses everything nowadays, her work is comprised of tiny dots which are meticulously placed next to each other in a very time consuming manner similar to meditation, faded and calm. Her artwork could be considered a continuation of detailed finishing’s of traditional Persian paintings or a kind of engraving with ink. These particles are similar to a community of ants or like the shapeless mass in a film by Tarkovski named “Solaris” in which the mass is transformed into a nightmare or a series of dreams: unfinished faces, architectural details, geometric and/or graphic shapes, incomplete structures, and pigs who are mating or wriggling with each other. Sedighian, in a distinctly different way and without taking the easy road or by making her work attractive by adding glaze or other bells & whistles, has managed to whisper in the eyes of he viewer whose reflection are like clouds that charge one’s imagination or galaxies that call us to themselves.
